What is the Remote Support Tool?

The Remote Support Tool is a new technology that connects UVic Students and Staff to to the technical support personnel of the UVic Computer Help Desk. Using this tool, the technical support representative can "share control" of your computer system or mobile phone for a limited period. This allows the technical support representative to visually guide you through procedures necessary to fix any issue you may be experiencing.

Is it safe?

After selecting a representative from the list below, the Remote Support Tool installation will begin. The Remote Support Tool installs a small application on your computer for the duration of the support session. At any time, you may click the large red 'X' button to terminate the connection with your technical support representative. When the session is terminated, all connections to and from the Remote Support Tool are terminated and the Remote Support Tool software is removed from your system.

Is it difficult to use?

No. The Remote Support Tool uses a clear and compact interface that requires minimal user interaction. If you have any questions during your session, feel free to ask your technical support representative!

How do I get started?

1. Contact the Computer Help Desk and request a Remote Support Session to resolve your issue.
2. Select the technical support representative as instructed by the Computer Help Desk.
3. Wait for the Remote Support Tool to install on your computer.
4. Click "Allow shared control of your computer" when prompted to do so by your technical support representative.
5. Allow your technical support representative to assist you with your issue.
6. When you feel that the problem has been resolved, or when you no longer wish to participate in the Remote Support Session, click the large 'X' button on the Remote Support Tool to end the session.
7. When your session has ended, you will be presented with an optional survey. Feel free to provide us with your comments or experiences with the Remote Support Tool!
